The Patrimony

Roman Provence...

The Vaucluse has a particular history that gives it a strong identity today. The Romans - a century before Christ - open roads, build bridges, theaters, aqueducts and cities: Orange, Vaison-la-Romaine, and not far St Rémy, Arles, Nîmes and the Pont du Gard

The Choregies of Orange...

Between June and August, musical performances - concerts, operas or other operas - are given in the ancient theater of Orange. The acoustic is excellent, the beautiful setting!

Avignon, City of the popes...

In the fourteenth century, the Vaucluse sees the installation of the papal court in Avignon, and the construction of the Palace of the Popes. Nine popes will reign there and transform the city into an artistic and commercial crossroads. It is visited with audio guide in 11 languages. The St Benezet Bridge, built in the 12th century was damaged and rebuilt several times. Today 4 arches remain on the 22 of origins

Le festival d'Avignon.

Created by Jean Vilar in 1947, the Avignon Festival is one of the oldest and most famous theater festivals. It takes place every year in July for 3 weeks.

From August to October, you can attend the Luminescences: a monumental video show in the heart of the Palais des Papes.

The most beautiful villages ...

Often perched, grouping the houses around the castle, the Provencal village dominates the surrounding vineyards and the plain. Seven villages of Vaucluse are classified among the "Most beautiful villages of France": Ansouis, Gordes, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Roussillon, Séguret and Venasque, others, less known, do not have the "label" but are worth the detour: The Barroux, Lacoste, Bonnieux, Saignon ...

The wealth of the terroir

The Vaucluse collects the appellations of origin: the melon of Cavaillon, the olive oil of Provence is an A.O.C, the strawberry is of Carpentras, the reason of table is the Muscatel of the Ventoux. Added to this are the vineyards and some ancestral flavors such as candied fruit from Apt, nougat and berlingots from Carpentras, the spelled from Haute Provence, black truffle, honey and lavender.
